Joking Matter
|
|
Dear Rev.
Hester,
Our pastor is a good preacher,
but he is forever telling "off colored" jokes about ethnic groups from
the pulpit. He thinks it is funny, but he doesn't realize how it is
offending and embarrassing many of our church members. What should we
do?

Side Baptist

Dear Country Side,
Go
to your pastor in a spirit of love and encouragement. Affirm his
preaching and tell him that you want to support him and his preaching
and ministry. Share with him that you aren't trying to tell him "how to
preach, or what to preach." Honestly share with him how some of the
church members are feeling that his telling jokes about ethic groups
from the pulpit is offending many church members and that these types
of jokes don't seem appropriate for a Christian minister to be telling
from the pulpit.
Blessings,
Rev. Dennis Hester
